Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speechwriter. She founded Feminist Frequency the website which provides commentary and videos on portrayals of women in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist, media critic and award-winning feminist for over 10 years. Feminist Frequency is a not-for profit site for education that investigates female representations in popular culture narratives - is created and is directed by Sarkeesian. Dispelling stereotypes of women is the main goals of her work. However, Sarkeesian also explores the issue of specific harassment of women on the internet as well as other communities who have been left out. Sarkeesian who has an MA in Political and Social Thought from York University, is a sought after public speaker. She has spoken at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. Feminist Frequency was created in 2009 by Sarkeesian. an undergraduate student at York University who had been fascinated by issues related to gender and feminism for quite a considerable period of time. A woman with ambitions to create a web series that examined the gender-based representation in video games, she was targeted by the internet campaign. Her determination was not slowed by the harassment, the fact is that it only bolstered her drive to become a media critic and feminist. To honor the numerous contributions she has made to feminist movements, she has been awarded numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award award-winning media journalist. She also serves as the founder and director of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organisation that studies pop culture representations of females.
